Turistattraksjon Fjellvegen mellom Årdal og Tyin vart altså straks ein stor turistattraksjon då den opna i 1934, og alt i 1935 kom det store turistskip. Skipa ankra opp anten utanfor Årdalstangen eller Lærdalsøyri, og cruiseturistane vart sende i mellom på «overlandsturar» med både buss og bil. På turen stoppa dei for å eta lunsj på Tyin Hotell. Medan turistane var i land, flytta skipa seg mellom Lærdalsfjorden og Årdalsfjorden, slik at turistane vart plukka opp og frakta om bord att etter rundturen over fjellet. Årdal Utvikling har hatt prosjektansvaret for den jobben som no er gjort, og resultatet er heilt fantastisk. Dei hadde ansvaret for at alt har gjekk rett føre seg med omsyn til tryggleik, og dei hadde ansvaret for å få på plass finansiering og gjennomføring. Grøttebø er imponert og stolt over resultatet som no ligg føre. - Me er imponerte over arbeidet som Torstein og Olav Birger Hæreid har utført. Til tross for dei smale og bratte arbeidstilhøva så har dei under heile prosjektet utført arbeidet på ein trygg og god måte. Trur ikkje det er mange som hadde klart å gjennomføre dette slik dei har gjort, seier ho. - Me kjem vidare til å setta i gang eit prosjekt no i vinter for å få på plass informasjonsskilt som skal plasserast langs vegen for å formidla den imponerande historia, seier ho, og legg til at både Årdal kommune, Hydro Aluminium, Hydro Energi og Kulturminnefondet fortener ein stor takk for at restaureringa av denne fantastiske vegen endeleg er ein realitet.
